Protecting your home and vehicles from Burglars

Home Security Checklist and Car Burglary Prevention

The Salt Lake City Police Department suggests taking the time to complete the security checklist to help protect your home from burglars.

Home Inventory

The Salt Lake City Police Department suggests taking the time to document information that would help prove ownership should your property be stolen. At any given time, SLCPD has hundreds of items in evidence that it would like to return to owners — items that can only be returned should the rightful owners prove their claims.

The links below provide a suggested home inventory tracking sheet. Please check with your insurance provider for other documentation ideas.

Community Intelligence Unit

The Salt Lake City Police Department has a special unit devoted to grassroots problem-solving within the community. The Community Intelligence Unit (CIU) has sevem officers who attend monthly community council meetings within the City’s seven City Council Districts. While CIU officers share and receive a lot of information at these meetings, it is daily interaction with residents that fosters the trust necessary to tackle public safety issues together.

If you have a problem in your neighborhood—from graffiti to loud parties, drug dealers to gangs—your CIU officer is ready to connect you with the law enforcement and community resources necessary to address the issue. Feel free to contact yours directly.
